MySpace article on Wired News

Last Friday I plugged my San Francisco zip code into California's Megan's Law directory. I got back sixteen names. I searched for each one on MySpace.com. The 7th one was a match--name, photo, age, location. I was surprised. This had taken all of a few minutes. How many more were out there?

The resulting story is published on Wired News today. I've tried to write a balanced, thought-provoking piece that, rather than sensationalize, uses this example to illustrate the enormous challenges a Web site like MySpace faces in balancing safety and privacy, legality and public relations.
